Shamisen and Kamogawa

24.05.2016

Yesterday beacuse I had day off me and my friend decided to go to pub. We wanted to find some new place around the area we living. Fortunately finding a new place wasn't so hard. And the place we found became a place where we'll come back soon. Music in this pub is played from old vinyl records. And that's one of many things that makeing this pub worth to go. Also the atmosphere inside is perfect. It's small and cosy. There is a place just for 7 people, but that's the point, beacuse you can easily get into interaction with Japanese people. As you may know They are usually shy, but not in places like this pub. They are steady customers so They know each others, They are friends so it is you entering theirs territory where They feel comfortable and safe. This is good for me and for everyone who wants to practice Japanese or make Japanese friends.

For some time I wanted to learn how to play at shamisen. Shamisen is a three string intrument that looks like a guitar. However finding a teacher or some club is not an easy job...  I was looking for it almost everywhere. I was even ready to ask old guy who is playing at shamisen every morning near the river on my way to school to become my teacher.  But thanks to that new pub we found yesterday, I don't have to.  We met there to Japanese women who are musician. They are giving concerts around Japan and even abroad. So I had to ask them if They know someone who can teach me and of course one of them knows the person I'm looking for. Maybe I'll start my lesson soon.

Shamisen is done so now it's time for Kamogawa. Translateing it litteraly it means Duck River. Why? don't ask me. Maybe it is beacuse ducks are living on this river. Anyway it's a river going through Kyoto like Thames in London or so on. Every day I go to school or work along Kamogawa. Many people are having picnic, practicing, relaxing, partying by the river. So you can call it the heart of Kyoto. River provides the home for many animals. You can meet even deers! But there is one animal that surprised me today. And that was Coypu. I'm not sure about the name. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm wondering how many of you know this animal. It was really popular in 80' in Poland. My grandfather was keeping them for meat and fur. I still remeber how he was teaching me about keeping and killing them.
At the end I want to show you a picture of guy I met today.
